App shop merchandising Amazon’s Alexa app following Apple song integration with resound speakers | killexams.com actual Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Apple actually hasn’t gone out of its system to promote the brand fresh Apple tune integration with Amazon resound audio system. aside from a brand fresh advocate doc, Apple left promotional tasks to Amazon together with the initial announcement.

The App withhold is promotion the Alexa app these days, however, marking the closest aspect to an announcement in view that they erudite Apple music become landing on resound speakers.

In an App withhold anecdote referred to as ‘Alexa, play Apple song’, Apple’s editorial team writes that “Our streaming tunes are actually built-in with Amazon’s voice carrier.”

if you betide to view the anecdote from iOS, that you may behold screenshots of a passage to set Apple tune as your default music provider for libraries and stations the usage of Alexa, and Apple touts that Apple song supports streaming “your iTunes libraries and the 50 million-plus songs in the Apple song library through resound gadgets.”

As a point of clarity, the App withhold anecdote additionally highlights that any tune for your iCloud track Library may noiseless labor with Echo, resound Dot, resound exhibit, and resound Spot.

particular person, household and scholar Apple song plans are outright supported. What’s greater, that you would live able to play uploaded tune for your iCloud music Library that is not any in the Apple track catalog via adding it to a playlist—Alexa will behold it and maneuver everything from there.

I verified calling up live versions of songs that I added to iCloud track Library the usage of Alexa when Apple song arrived on resound ultimate week with no luck. The trick seems to live the ‘adding it to a playlist’ bit that the App store anecdote mentions. respectable to grasp!

Apple nonetheless must add Alexa to its supported gadgets listing for Apple tune, however’s satisfactory to contemplate the App store promoting the brand fresh integration in the absence of an Apple Newsroom anecdote or some other push.

Apple song on Alexa works neatly with elements like speaker businesses and song alarms supported. Apple tune on Alexa is simply attainable within the u.s., youngsters, (which might besides also live a factor) due to Amazon’s song API.

Apple closely Promotes the Amazon Echo’s Apple music Integration | killexams.com actual Questions and Pass4sure dumps

at the conclusion of November, Amazon introduced on its blog that Apple music can live coming to resound contraptions the week of December 17th. The song streaming carrier showed up on Echos a itsy-bitsy earlier than anticipated closing Friday, December 14th.

these days, Apple began merchandising Apple track’s availability on resound contraptions via three distinctive channels. The resound integration first seemed on the App save, which gave the Alexa app top billing in a these days tab anecdote that highlights the fresh function. Apple is besides merchandising the resound integration on the Apple track features web page of its site along with different third-birthday celebration instruments like PCs, Android gadgets, and Sonos tune gamers. ultimately, late within the day US time, the Apple music app started offering shove notifications highlighting the resound function.

Amazon’s resound contraptions aren’t the primary third-party hardware to comeby Apple song advocate because the Apple song site demonstrates, nonetheless it is bizarre for Apple to promote an additional enterprise’s hardware alongside Apple track to this diploma. It’s additionally striking as a result of, within the two weeks that followed Amazon’s announcement, Apple said nothing. Nor did it well known the alternate four days in the past when the Alexa app turned into up to date.

i wouldn't live shocked if advertising the resound became portion of a much bigger deal that acquired Apple items lower back on Amazon shelves in early November. whether or no longer that’s the case, it’s noiseless unique to behold Apple, which presents the competing HomePod, setaside so a lot promotional weight at the back of Amazon’s smart home speaker.

  • Asus ZenBook 14 UX433 vs. Apple MacBook Air | killexams.com actual Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Apple currently refreshed its MacBook Air, the pc that at first kicked off the modern thin-and-mild fashion. The up-to-date 2018 MacBook Air takes that even additional, whereas updating the seem. The market hasn’t stood though. a few staggering notebooks hold surpassed the MacBook Air that are thinner, lighter, and smaller.

The Asus ZenBook 14 UX433 is one such pc, and it uses one other coincident mode — tiny bezels — to apt a 14-inch screen in a chassis continually reserved for 13-inch panels. Does it beat out the business’s first vogue-setter?

Design Asus ZenBook 14 UX433FN brand Coppock/Digtial developments

the first issue you’ll word when you open up the ZenBook 14 is the expanse of monitor framed via so itsy-bitsy bezel. The MacBook Air additionally has smaller bezels than the customary, but they’re now not very nearly so small. That effects in the ZenBook 14 being most efficient half an inch wider than the MacBook Air and half an inch much less deep — that’s appropriate, Asus hold the aptitude to pack a 14-inch parade perquisite into a frame that’s smaller in a solitary dimension than the  Macbook Air with its 13.three-inch monitor.

The ZenBook 14 is virtually as solidly developed because the MacBook Air, which benefits from the average Apple-high-quality construction. Asus subjected it to the replete latitude of MIL-STD-810G military commonplace checking out, and the lid and chassis are only as rigid because the extraordinary MacBook Air’s. but the ZenBook’s keyboard deck is more flexible. In that regard, the Asus is a step at the back of.

Aesthetically, the ZenBook 14 comes in a Royal Blue color with gold trim, including a gold bar above the keyboard that looks lots like a sound bar but is truly just decorative. The MacBook Air retains its wedge form, even though smaller than the normal. usual, it noiseless appears plenty like a Mac — and that’s a superb component. which you could comeby it in three very luscious colors, together with Gold, Silver, and belt grey.

The ZenBook 14 enjoys a keyboard with greater shuttle than Apple’s 3rd-era butterfly keyboard, and they favored it more suitable due to a precise mechanism. For its half, the MacBook Air activities the typical massive — and excellent — Apple touchpad with drive handle support. in the meantime, the ZenBook 14’s greater traditionally-sized Microsoft Precision touchpad works well and offers the resourceful NumberPad LED numeric keypad for quantity crunchers. Neither workstation has a dash screen.

finally, the ZenBook 14 specializes in mighty legacy assist by including USB-A three.1, USB-A 2.0, and USB-C 3.1 ports devoid of Thunderbolt three help, a large HDMI connection, and a microSD card reader. The MacBook Air is all-in on the long run, with just two USB-C ports with 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 assist.

The ZenBook 14 deserves some kudos for squeezing a large parade into a chassis that’s equivalent in measurement to the MacBook Air’s, and its NumberPad is a nice characteristic for americans who labor with numbers. but you could’t beat Apple’s construct pleasant, specifically given the ZenBook’s spongey keyboard deck.

efficiency Asus ZenBook 14 UX433FN brand Coppock/Digtial trends

Asus equipped the ZenBook 14 with the latest and top of the line Whiskey Lake 8th-era Intel Core CPUs, quad-core processors which are both sooner and greater productive than the previous generation. Their evaluation unit used the Core i7-8565U, and it’s significantly faster than the low-energy, twin-core Core i5-8250Y that powers the MacBook Air. For both fundamental productivity and extra superior initiatives like video editing, the Asus goes to trounce the Apple.

The MacBook Air does exhaust a lots quicker PCIe solid-state coerce (SSD) than the ZenBook 14. That makes it enhanced at opening and saving data and booting the operating equipment. In apply, although, the ZenBook 14 is with ease a tons quicker computing device.

monitor fine is one other necessary performance ingredient, notwithstanding, and there the MacBook Air doesn’t hold the ordinary Apple knowledge. Its 13.three-inch parade is lots sharper at 2,560 x 1,600 compared to the entire HD (1,920 x 1,080) 14-inch expose on the ZenBook 14. And Apple’s panel had a much wider and more accurate colour gamut. but the Asus parade become brighter and had improved contrast and a greater accurate gamma (so video could live neither too gentle nor too darkish). Neither are the optimal shows, but we'd select the MacBook Air’s panel for its better colorations and significantly higher sharpness.

until you’re only going to exhaust your workstation for probably the most fundamental productiveness projects, you then’ll live a magnificient deal happier with the ZenBook 14’s performance.

Portability Apple MacBook Air 2018 Julian Chokkattu/Digital traits

The ZenBook 14 is 0.sixty three inches thick and it weighs 2.sixty two kilos. That compares to the MacBook Air at 0.61 inches inches at its thickest factor and a couple of.seventy five kilos. That makes each of those notebooks thin, light, and miniature sufficient to slip perquisite into a backpack without being observed.

in terms of the other crucial portability component, battery lifestyles, these two notebooks are once more closely matched. They both forward with 50 watt-hours of battery potential, however even with the MacBook Air’s low-powered CPU they done very equivalent scores on their battery assessments. The ZenBook 14 lasted a few minutes longer in their Basemark net benchmark and video exams, while the Macbook Air browsed the net for byfar longer.

when it comes to portability, it’s a draw between the ZenBook 14 and the MacBook Air.

MacBook Air offers greater for its MacOS clients Macbook Air (2018) ReviewRiley young/Digital tendencies

The ZenBook 14 is attractively priced, with their overview unit coming in at $1,200 ($1,a hundred on sale) for a Core i7-8565U, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. which you can disburse as itsy-bitsy as $1,000 for a Core i5-8256U, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The MacBook Air starts at $1,000 for a Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD, and it jumps up to $1,800 for 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. That makes it a a lot greater premium pc.

The ZenBook 14 packs a larger parade perquisite into a in a similar passage miniature chassis, and it’s a helpful deal faster. but it’s not as smartly constructed and its screen isn’t as sharp — making the MacBook Air a more compelling option for its target viewers.

Xiaomi Crushes Fitbit and Apple in Wearable Shipments | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

Global shipments of wearables rose 22% annually to 32 million units during the third quarter of 2018 according to IDC. That growth wasn't surprising: Fitness trackers and smartwatches are becoming increasingly common. But the growth of Xiaomi (NASDAQOTH: XIACF) -- which claimed the top spot with a 21.5% share -- likely stunned some investors.

Xiaomi tied Fitbit (NYSE: FIT) for first region a year ago, with each company controlling 13.7% of the market, while Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) ranked second with a 10.3% share. However, Fitbit's share dropped to 10.9% during the third quarter, putting the former market leader in third place, while Apple remained in second with a 13.1% share.

Between the third quarters of 2017 and 2018, Xiaomi's shipments surged 91% to 6.9 million units, fueled by the launch of the Mi band 3 and its expansion beyond China into fresh markets like India, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The low cost tag of the Mi band 3 (at about $30) made it a top altenative for budget users and emerging markets.

Meanwhile, Fitbit's shipments slipped 3% to 3.5 million units as stronger sales of the Versa, impregnate 3, and Ace only partly offset softer demand for its traditional fitness trackers. Apple's shipments jumped 54% to 4.2 million units, buoyed by the launch of the Apple Watch string 4. Should Fitbit and Apple worry about Xiaomi's meteoric growth, or is there noiseless room for outright three companies to thrive?

    Xiaomi's growth could threaten Fitbit

Fitbit's revenue growth slowed to a crawl over the past two years as sales of its lower-end fitness trackers decelerated and rivals like Xiaomi, Apple, and Huawei entered the market. Smartphones besides added basic step-tracking features, while smartwatches added more tangled apps and workout features that rendered basic fitness trackers obsolete.

Fitbit pivoted away from the fitness tracker market with the smartwatch-like impregnate 3, the Versa smartwatch, and the Ace for kids, but it merely curbed its declines instead of generating stalwart year-over-year sales growth. It's besides expanding its digital ecosystem with smartwatch apps and health record services, but it's unclear if those initiatives can lock in more users. For now, Fitbit is treading water and cutting costs to better its non-GAAP profitability -- which could restrict its marketing and R&D capabilities. Analysts hope the company's revenue to Fall 7% this year and for its net loss to narrow.

    Story continues

Fitbit's Versa smartwatch. Image source: Fitbit.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi's ally Huami (NYSE: HMI), which actually makes the Mi Band, sells a wide purview of Amazfit smartwatches (including the sub-$90 Bip) that could disrupt the smartwatch market in the identical manner as the fitness tracker market. If that happens, sales of Fitbit's Versa and impregnate 3 could eventually peak.

    But Apple probably isn't worried

Apple probably isn't worried about Xiaomi because the two companies serve different markets. Xiaomi's fitness trackers labor with iOS devices, but Apple Watch's watchOS offers much deeper integration with a user's iPhone apps.

Apple users besides minister to buy first-party products that apt neatly into its ecosystem, and they're willing to pay a premium. In other words, there might live an overlap between Apple's high-end users and Xiaomi's budget consumers, but it likely represents a miniature sliver of Apple's core market.

Therefore, Apple is mainly competing against itself in the smartwatch market, so its 54% year-over-year jump in shipments is impressive. The Apple Watch isn't a significant driver of hardware sales growth like the iPhone, iPad, or Mac, but it represents another passage for Apple to lock users into its walled garden.

The expansion of that prisoner-taking ecosystem -- which besides includes the App Store, Apple Music, iTunes, Apple Pay, and other services -- boosted Apple's higher-margin Services revenue (16% of its top line) 17% annually last quarter. The growth of that unit should gradually offset Apple's dependence on the iPhone, which is approaching a cyclical peak.

    The market is noiseless evolving

Gartner expects global wearable device sales to surge 26% this year, with smartwatches leading the charge. The difficult expects smartwatch shipments to surge from 53 million this year to 115 million in 2022 -- so there could noiseless live plenty of room for Xiaomi, Fitbit, Apple, and other companies to grow without trampling each other.

Investors should besides note that this market is constantly evolving, and early leaders like Samsung hold fallen out of favor. Therefore, Xiaomi is the top dog for now, but it could struggle to maintain that lead over the next few years.

  • It's that time of year: a fresh Windows release is coming, with Mac virtualization application updates in tow. You'd contemplate there's only so much you could attain with a program that hosts another OS, but these fresh updates are surprising for their innovation. With the previous release of VMware Fusion 5 Professional, VMware started differentiating its products from Parallels by tapping its established, IT-oriented features. On the other hand, Parallels is pushing closer Mac integration and better 3D graphics support. The latest releases look to live in much the identical vein, but that's enough talking around these releases—let's dive in.

Test Hardware 17-inch MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Sandy Bridge
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1GB Radeon 6770M
  • OS X 10.9 Mavericks builds 13A584 through golden master
  • 13-inch mid-2011 MacBook Air 1.7GHz Core i5
  • 4GB RAM
  • Intel HD 3000 384MB graphics
  • OS X 10.8.4
  • Since both VMware and Parallels are advertising advocate for Mavericks-ready features, I decided to elude the MacBook Pro on Mavericks. (Luckily, the OS has been very stable and, toward the near of the review, became a release candidate). Any bugs in the earlier versions used would hold been minor enough to not move usability as client OSes or as a host for Parallels or VMware's software. And because Parallels Desktop 9 features Power Nap support, I needed to swipe my girlfriend's MacBook Air to test it out.

    Dave Girard on Parallels, Fusion Oct. 2012: Parallels 8 v. Fusion 5 showdownOct. 2011: Parallels 7 v. Fusion 4 showdownSept. 2010: Parallels 6 reviewNov. 2009: Fusion 3 review

We'll start with the individual features and then compare the two where the fresh features overlap (for example, Windows 8.1, Linux, and Mac OS X 10.9 client OS support). As usual, I won't live reviewing these programs from scratch, so readers who aren't sure how they currently stand should read their previous comparative reviews.

    New Parallels Desktop 9 features

Parallels has always been helpful at bridging OS X and Windows with advocate for the newer features of the Mac OS. Version 9 is no different.

Mountain Lion (and later) dictionary support

Parallels Desktop 9 adds the OS X contextual dictionary support. As one of the more frequently used OS X writing tools, the contextual dictionary and thesaurus availability on Windows client VMs is definitely a welcome addition. If you are writing and want an alternate word for something you've written, just hit Command-Control-D, and you'll comeby a definition of your selected words as well as some synonyms.

It's a magnificient tool. While it may not look like a large addition, for those who exhaust Dragon prescribe in Windows or Office in a VM, it's going to live invaluable. It's not always flawless, however.

The definition is appearing below the VM window. The definition is appearing below the VM window.

But I only saw that once in a while. Otherwise, it's a shame this feature isn't available to other client OSes (although I don't contemplate a lot of people are using Linux for Open Office).

    Power Nap features

If you hold a recent-ish portable Mac that supports Power Nap—the technology that lets your sleeping machine attain tasks with one eye open while consuming minimal power—then Parallels Desktop 9 can grasp odds of this by enabling updates to Windows VMs while asleep. To test it, I started a large Windows update and closed the lid of my Power Nap-capable MacBook Air and checked in occasionally to behold its progress. Predictably, it moved much slower through the update tasks. Still, when I came back in the morning, the VM was up to date and had rebooted with the installed updates. Obviously, you don't comeby this kind of thing for free in terms of power, so if you're worried about battery life, double-check in the system preferences that Power Nap is off on battery power—that is the default setting. Otherwise, this is a flawless illustration of something you'd like to attain while sleeping a machine overnight, and Parallels definitely gets points for thinking ahead here. It's a shame it's not supported for OSes other than Windows, though.

    Official DirectX 10 support

Parallels added experimental advocate for DirectX 10 in version 8 of Desktop, but as the “e" word implies, it wasn't stable and ready for prime time. Version 9 adds replete advocate to DirectX 10, and seeing a fresh game like Bioshock boundless elude in a VM on high settings is pretty Amazing for its technical accomplishments:

Bioshock boundless in DirectX 10 executing flawlessly, if a bit pokily, in Parallels Desktop 9.

It's a slideshow at times, but it's noiseless impressive for virtualization. Yes, there is a Mac version of this game, but I chose this program because of that limitation and because it comes with a benchmark utility.

In a similar vein to Fusion 5's addition of OpenGL advocate for Linux VMs, obtaining a top hasten isn't as necessary as adding advocate since many apps simply refuse to elude without it.

VMware and VirtualBox fail to launch <em>Bioshock Infinite</em> and other DirectX 10 apps. VMware and VirtualBox fail to launch Bioshock boundless and other DirectX 10 apps.

There are the rare professional 3D applications that default to DirectX in Windows—Autodesk's Max being the most high-profile example. It's likely that some of these will creep their minimum requirements from DirectX 9.0c to DirectX 10 in the next few years to comeby more sophisticated real-time previews. Parallels has laid the difficult but much-needed groundwork to behold it compose it through this transition. I contemplate that DirectX 11, which supports tessellation, will grasp a lot more labor to implement in a virtualized GPU, but the user exigency for that is years away, thankfully. It's more pressing to advocate OpenGL 3 and above since 99.9 percent of professional 3D applications exhaust OpenGL. Version 2.1—the maximum version supported by VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop—is getting aged enough that they could behold 3D applications for Windows and Linux require version 3 in the near future. High-end animation program Houdini already defaults to OpenGL 3 on Windows and Linux, and it will crash if you don't hold a GL 3-capable card. CAD and CAM software parade needs are basic enough that I don't contemplate they will live foisting an OpenGL 3 requirement on their users for a much longer time to come.

DirectX 10 benchmark in Boot Camp and in a VM

It's not really playable at that framerate, but my 2011 MacBook Pro's aging 6770M doesn't attain wonders in Boot Camp either. It was showing the exact identical screen rendering as the AMD yeast drivers in Boot Camp from what I could tell, and that's impressive considering the shader complexity in Bioshock Infinite. If you're looking to play a Humble Indie Bundle-type game that's DirectX 10 only, Parallels Desktop 9 should labor fine on recent hardware. I'm really snoopy to behold how this will discharge on the 2013 Mac Pro's FirePro GPU, which is basically a Radeon 7970 with oodles of ECC memory. Since there are two of them, I sensation if they will live able to implement CrossFire to exhaust both GPUs in a virtual machine. Dare to nerdy dream.

Thunderbolt and Firewire drive mounting for VMs

When you connect a FireWire or Thunderbolt drive in Parallels Desktop 9, you comeby a prompt much like the USB device one that lets you mount them to the VM (while it noiseless connects the Mac OS side the identical way):

<br /> Unfortunately, neither the designation of my Thunderbolt drive nor any indication it's on the Thunderbolt port are shown. Instead, you comeby a serial number and generic device ID. Unfortunately, neither the designation of my Thunderbolt drive nor any indication it's on the Thunderbolt port are shown. Instead, you comeby a serial number and generic device ID.

Once it mounts inside the VM, the designation shows up correctly next to its drive missive in Windows, and you don't exigency to hold an HFS+ driver, like MacDrive, installed to comeby read and write support. If you are daisy chaining devices on Thunderbolt, those labor fine, and my 27-inch Dell screen noiseless worked the identical passage passing through my Parallels-mounted Lacie 2big. At first, since you can already share drives to the VM, I was a itsy-bitsy confused as to why this disk sharing scheme would live useful. Then I remembered those times that I needed to mount USB disks in the VM as disks to compose boot disks, and it outright made sense.

    Cloud sync

I frequently test my Maya scripts for compatibility in Linux and Windows. They are already in my Dropbox folder, so it's a large boon to not hold to set up redundant Dropbox installs for my VMs. Parallels automatically detects what cloud apps you hold installed and sets up that environment for your client VMs. For Dropbox, SkyDrive, and Google Drive, I know I could just share that folder separately, but having the Dropbox folder readily available is a nice touch. The iCloud integration is the most captivating since it exposes the innards of iCloud as a filesystem, sort of FUSE style:

iCloud and the data stored by its applications clearly sorted into subfolders. Enlarge / iCloud and the data stored by its applications clearly sorted into subfolders.

I tested iCloud saving and syncing with a basic RTF text file, and files saved from Wordpad in Windows 7 Pro worked fine when opened back up in OS X. It was a flawless sustain overall. Still, I don't know if read/write access to your cloud data should live on by default since it raises potential data security issues you might not live aware of as a basic user. My only actual complaint about the cloud integration features is that they are only available to Windows VMs. This seems to live a mantra that's growing increasingly loud at Parallels.

    New VMware Fusion 6 features

Aside from Windows 8.1 and advocate for running OS X 10.9 in a VM and as a host OS, there are some fresh things that should compose version 6 of Fusion a tempting update. As in Parallels Desktop, VMware is advertising better performance for its latest version, so read the benchmarks to behold what kind of bump that translated into.

    Beefiest virtual machines around

Since neither Parallels nor VMware hold workstation versions of their software for OS X, they are increasingly adding enterprise-level features to their desktop Mac products. Fusion 6 ups that bar considerably: it lets you create virtual machines with advocate for up to 16 CPUs, 10 network adapters, 8TB disks, and up to 64GB of RAM for the client VM. Previously, the CPU restrict was capped at eight, and the RAM restrict was 8GB. Meanwhile, Parallels Desktop 9 noiseless limits VMs to 8 CPUs and 16GB RAM max.

Since I attain the occasional 3D model conversion and render in Autodesk Max in a VM, I am very interested in testing advocate for 16 virtual cores. Unfortunately, I sold my 2010 Mac Pro in anticipation of purchasing the fresh one and wasn't able to test this out. It's limpid that the capabilities are there:

If you're running demanding multiprocessing applications in a VM on a Mac Pro, you don't exigency benchmarks to relate you that VMware Fusion 6 is going to best tap that added hardware. I'm very excited to behold this kind of power in a consumer-oriented (and priced) virtualization product. Your move, Parallels.

VMware Fusion 6 Professional version features

As of version 5, VMware added a Professional version that costs a itsy-bitsy more than the ground version but adds features that appeal to IT departments looking for added control over the kinds of things their employees can attain within their VM. This may not sound sexy, but IT stuff rarely is.

    Enhanced Restricted Virtual Machines

On top of the restriction capabilities of version 5— the aptitude to restrict USB device settings, disable shared folders, control CPU and remembrance configuration and accessible network devices—version 6 adds the aptitude to encrypt VMs with a password. Select this option and it encrypts the VM contents.

Fortunately, this feature isn't just for Windows VMs. It worked with my Fedora VM as well. Fortunately, this feature isn't just for Windows VMs. It worked with my Fedora VM as well.

Once you attain that, the VM will demand a password to start. I institute that this was not a bulletproof setup. It asked me once for the password after setting it but never again to resume it while launched.

That "play" icon at the top perquisite was once a lock, but 'tis no more. Enlarge / That "play" icon at the top perquisite was once a lock, but 'tis no more.

I institute out that this is how it works while the application is launched. Once you quit and restart it, the lock reappears. I contemplate it should sojourn as a lock since a stolen laptop might noiseless hold the application launched, which would let the person in unprompted.

What's a itsy-bitsy more troubling is that if you don't want to always enter the password, the password can live stored in a Mac OS X keychain. This feels odd since this is the kind of end-user thing you'd want to prohibit as an administrator, but this is the identical in Parallels Desktop. I'd stutter that the encryption stuff needs a slight tweak to near those security loopholes.

    Benchmarks pre-encrypted and encrypted

As you can behold from above, VMware's encryption greatly increases the amount of time it takes to suspend and resume the VM because of the computationally expensive processing that is done on the VM's remembrance and VRAM. While Parallels' initial filesystem encryption takes some time, suspend and resume encryption is almost worryingly fast, and I'm assuming it must live basic enough that it's not causing any overhead. On average it was the same, and the resume average was actually faster with encryption enabled. For VMware users, I would only exhaust encryption if you really exigency the security, but its encryption is reassuringly slow. If you find that you no longer want it, the encryption can live removed permanently. Also, if you are using a template virtual machine and exigency your employees to change the password for moved or copied VMs, that is another option you can enable.

    Expiring Virtual Machines

Since a virtual machine is a portable file with potentially private information in it, it's understandable that you might exigency to restrict its capabilities—even once it's left your hands. Once you encrypt a VM, it enables more security features for the VM. You can even hold it expire Mission Impossible style.

    Self destruct!* Self destruct!*

    *Explosion sold separately.

Since some users would contemplate they could just roll back the clock on the host machine, the expiration is managed by an external server. You can restrict the amount of time the VM can live used if it doesn't contact the main server—this is similar to how software activation schemes work. This may look extreme, but I can behold this being a very useful passage of providing replete access to some company data that could reclaim some logins to a VPN that, thanks to the NSA, isn't that P after all.

Single Virtual Machine Mode and Restricted Features

If you want to lock down the aptitude of an employee to compose virtual machines, Fusion 7 Pro lets you restrict access to the application so that they are only allowed to exhaust one VM. On top of that, you can further segregate the VM from the host Mac by disabling drag and drop and copy/paste.

This is one thing that VirtualBox had for a while. This is one thing that VirtualBox had for a while.

With outright these added security features, your IT department can finally create a virtualized version of the frustratingly limited computing sustain employees hold grown to loathe. I kid, I kid—I'm just lucky I don't labor under a paranoid IT manager. I already hold to labor around Dropbox bans with numerous clients. Hear my cries, Internet!

    Linked Clones

In version 6 Professional, users can now create linked clones of virtual machines. This lets you hold two or more VMs with the identical content, but the file size of the linked clone is much smaller because it references the master VM.

The majority of that 8GB linked clone's file size is suspended memory. Enlarge / The majority of that 8GB linked clone's file size is suspended memory.

In 3D graphics, they convene this kind of copy an instance, and the conduct is similar. compose a change to the clone and it propagates to the master and vice-versa. If you're wondering why this would live useful, you can change the VM settings (CPU count, network adapter's MAC address, etc.) while keeping the system and software installation the same. This makes VMware Fusion 6 Pro a really helpful altenative for software testing environments where you want to behold how a change in remembrance allocation or a lack of DirectX capabilities will move the conduct of a similar machine.

So with the individual feature updates covered, let's contemplate at how the latest versions of Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion fare with Windows 8.1 client VMs.

    Windows 8.1 virtualized

The Windows 8.1 update will soon live upon us, and RTM builds hold already leaked through holes in the Interwebs. Fortunately, this let me test these updates with Microsoft's next update, so reclaim for any coming point updates, this should portray what users can hope with both apps and Windows 8.1. The final releases from VMware and Parallels featured Windows 8 support, so there isn't a lot to stutter about how they maneuver 8.1. It's largely the same—both VMware Fusion 6 and Parallels Desktop 9 let you elude Metro style apps from Launchpad or the Dock, for example. But there are some notable changes in each that warrant coverage.

First, let's talk about Parallels. While you could install Windows 8.1 in version 8, there was a showstopping bug that prevented you from dragging and dropping from shared folders into Windows. I was forced to exhaust the copy and paste feature to transfer files from shares to the VM, but this has been fixed in version 9. Beyond that, Parallels, likely sensing people's reluctance to creep to Windows 8's unfamiliar and not exactly celebrated user interface, took things into its own hands in Parallels Desktop 9 and added a Start Menu courtesy of the Stardock Start8 program. When you exhaust the Windows 8 install wizard, it asks you if you want it to behave like Windows 7.

It besides sets the flags to boot directly to the desktop. Enlarge / It besides sets the flags to boot directly to the desktop.

I'm not a fan of Windows 8—call me aged fashioned, but I'd rather not behold articles about Miley Cyrus or weight loss in my app launcher screen—but this helped greatly with feelings of frustration by avoiding the tablet-style navigation of Windows 8.1's Start screen. You can exhaust outright the confidential text shortcuts (netplwiz, cmd, etc.) in the Start8 menu, so this isn't just a half-assed launcher.

The Start8 menu replaces the Start Screen menu and is functionally identical to Windows 7's Start menu from what I can tell. Here I'm invoking the command prompt as Administrator. The Start8 menu replaces the Start Screen menu and is functionally identical to Windows 7's Start menu from what I can tell. Here I'm invoking the command prompt as Administrator.

If I planned to exhaust Windows 8 as my Windows VM, this would live a plus for Parallels for sure, and it's not trialware. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from installing Start8 in VMware Fusion—you just hold to pay extra for it.

Otherwise, the “success" of Parallels Desktop 9 and VMware Fusion 6's Windows 8.1 is kind of like a comparison of which isn't worse. Windows 8 noiseless presents too many usability hurdles, especially when you try to make that apt within a unified, windowed Mac environment. VMware's unity window mode isn't very unified with Windows 8.1 and Metro apps, for example.

Unity windowing mode for Metro apps in VMware Fusion is an clumsy experience.

Parallels doesn't fare much better with switching from one Metro app to another in Modality mode.

Windows 8.1’s Metro-style apps in Modality mode in Parallels Desktop.

If you select the Windows 7 style interface, Metro apps loom with buggy window buffers that can't live clicked.

Buggy buffer parade of a windowed Metro-style app in Parallels Desktop 9.

Windows 8.1 is noiseless kind of a train wreck compared to previous versions of Windows if you're looking to really integrate its applications seamlessly into the Mac desktop. If you exhaust only non-Metro apps, the sustain should live less awkward, but there's noiseless no magic bullet from either VMware or Parallels to address this. It's difficult to stutter which is “best" for Windows 8.1 since, for me at least, that combines a lot of factors including GPU hasten (Mostly Parallels' advantage) and advocate for many CPU cores (VMware Fusion 6's advantage). Read the benchmarks section to behold a more thorough breakdown of those things.

On the bug front, there were some showstopping issues in both Fusion 6 and Parallels Desktop 9 desktop with Windows 8.1 that affected 3D graphics. In Parallels, Autodesk Max's materials editor was nearly impossible to exhaust due to a badly rendered buffer.

Parallels Desktop 9 having drawing issues with Autodesk Max 2011 in Windows 8.1.

This inexplicably went away later, even though nothing—host OS, program, or client OS—was updated. VMware Fusion 6 failed to render shadows correctly in the Heaven benchmark.

This was, however, a permanent issue. Enlarge / This was, however, a permanent issue.

All told, it's a bit early to recommend either of these programs for production-level 3D labor in Windows 8.1. If you just exigency to open a CAD document and hit render, you should live fine with either (though I'll live sticking with Windows 7 for that job, and both labor fine with Windows 7). If you're just looking for Office or other non-3D app advocate in Windows 8.1, you should live golden.

    For Linux clients

Linux VM advocate is always shaky with fresh releases because testing is largely weighted toward Windows, as it makes up the lion's share of users. Unfortunately, I can't test every distro, but feel free to attain that yourself if you hold a few months to spare. I installed not-too-recent versions of CentOS, Ubuntu, and Fedora in both VMware Fusion 6 and Parallels Desktop 9, and the not-quite-out-of-beta status quickly reared its head in Parallels Desktop 9. Launching Fedora, CentOS, or Ubuntu Linux apps from the Dock doesn't labor at all, even with the VM already open.

Two of these things don't belong here. Two of these things don't belong here.

Parallels Desktop 9 noiseless suffers badly from GPU glitches in Fedora 17. It was so unpleasant that it rendered the OS completely unusable for me.

Fedora 17 is crippled by Parallels Desktop 9’s failure to render the GNOME 3 activities window correctly

This was a problem in version 8 as well. The issue is widely reported, and the distro is aged enough that this issue should hold been taken care of by now.

This was an issue in both Mountain Lion and Mavericks, so it's something that can live blamed on Apple's beta drivers. It's been like this for almost a year now from what I can remember, and it's absolutely maddening that it's noiseless a problem. You might say, “well, these non-Ubuntu distros are not needed by a lot of users." But I contemplate that if your smart installer detects the distro, you exigency to fix its bugs. Otherwise, after more than a year of failing to fix showstopping bugs that many others hold reported, you're not looking too good.

    VMware with Linux

With the bar set so low by Parallels' Linux support, it's not difficult to prognosticate that VMware's Fusion 6 Linux sustain is less painful overall. But it wasn't much better. The Mac menu bar Application Launcher works as advertised with Fedora, but it didn't populate correctly for Ubuntu. The GNOME 3 launcher had its own set of parade problems.

Fortunately that cleared up on mouse-over. Enlarge / Fortunately that cleared up on mouse-over.

And this parade issue pops up frequently:

The itsy-bitsy window that couldn’t: VMware Fusion 6 struggles to resize a Fedora 17 window.

For a while, I couldn't resize my Fedora VM window. Even after that, it would occasionally flicker crazily until it eventually expanded the window.

I wanted to behold if any progress had been made in the Gallium 3D front, but the OpenGL issues I reported in my review of the final version of VMware Fusion—improper culling in Topogun, for example—are noiseless prevalent in 6.0.1 in Fedora 17.

How the scene should appear, rendered correctly in Parallels. Enlarge / How the scene should appear, rendered correctly in Parallels. Fusion 6's reliance on the Gallium 3D driver means it has issues with culling that noiseless aren't resolved. Enlarge / Fusion 6's reliance on the Gallium 3D driver means it has issues with culling that noiseless aren't resolved.

Topogun has a Mac version, so this isn't a huge problem for VMware, but it's a helpful random sampling of a modern OpenGL 2.1 application. Realizing that a newer version of the Gallium 3D driver might live available to Ubuntu users, I installed Topogun in Ubuntu 13.04 and updated it. The identical drawing issues justify up there, too. 3D performance seems to live about the identical as previous versions, so it's not really competitive against Parallels for weighty 3D or CAD scenes in Linux. I realize this is just a drop in the ocean of what you might attain with Linux VMs, but if you don't exigency very fresh distro advocate or 3D/OpenGL compositor support, you might live fine with VirtualBox.

As for which virtualization product is better with Linux, I'd stutter it depends on your needs. For now, I'm leaning toward VMware due to its better long-term advocate of Linux VMs, from what I behold and what I hear others experience.

For Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks VMs

On the bleeding edge of VM advocate comes advocate for Mavericks, which isn't quite out the door yet. But it just went golden master, and even the earlier builds that I was using for this review were more than stable enough that it could live elude for everyday use. It was a helpful thing that I got to install the GM build, though, since the recovery partition install for VMware and Parallels' Mavericks VMs wouldn't labor with pre-GM builds. This was a problem with indigenous hardware as well as with the recovery installation with developer previews, so it was fixed on the Apple side. While both VMware and Parallels installed the OS from the net-based recovery installer, VMware Fusion was the only one that recognized the disk-based application installer for Mavericks. You will hold to exhaust the much slower net installer with Parallels Desktop 9 until the company fixes that bug.

If you're concerned about performance with Mavericks, I did a quick benchmark.

A slight win for VMware in Geekbench but a large loss to Parallels in my multiple mixed-size file copy test. Otherwise, VMware Fusion 6's usability came out slightly on top for Mavericks in a VM. Fusion supports drag and drop from the host Mac into the VM, but it doesn't labor in Parallels Desktop 9. It's a miniature but significant thing that makes VMware's Mavericks VM feel less boxed in. Parallels' Mavericks VM crashed at one time while VMware's never had stability problems.

Unfortunately, VMware and Parallels fail to advocate OpenGL in an OS X VM, which is dawn to live a problem. OpenGL is increasingly being used by non-3D applications for component composition. I'm guessing that's why neither VMware nor Parallels can comeby the Mavericks Maps application to parade anything but the top marker buffer.

    It should contemplate like this:

Since Apple has been shipping decent GPUs in its hardware for many years now, it's generally assumed that if you can elude Mavericks, you hold a GPU with OpenGL support. VMware and Parallels may not like the opinion of having to write OpenGL driver advocate for a scarcely virtualized OS, but they will exigency to if they want to comeby proper functionality for the applications. The writing has been on the wall for a while now.

Compared to the Free VirtualBox Virtualization Program

I hold reviewed VirtualBox in the past, and many users swear by it for the simple reason that it's free and it works for many people's basic needs. But if you are considering it as an alternative to Parallels Desktop or VMware, you should know that it's not really in the identical league from a usability standpoint. The interface and options can live confusing compared to Parallels and VMware—it's not immediately limpid how you attach ISO storage to virtual DVD drives, and there's a lot of digging through options that seems unnecessary. This may live because the software is not oriented toward the identical consumer market as the other programs, so it exposes controls to things that some IT managers would like but most people wouldn't want to live exposed to, like the virtual disk format.

Otherwise, there are just too many things that lack finish in VirtualBox, and these can waste your time. For example, the default Linux disk size of 8GB is too miniature to install some configurations, but it's only after you comeby into the installation portion that you realize this and hold to restart the VM creation process or shut down and resize your disk partition. (And the latter option has to live done from the command line.) The Windows disk size default is a more reasonable 25GB. There is no auto-setup for client VMs, and you hold to enable a lot of things like clipboard sharing that should live on by default. Sharing between the host Mac is not ideal, as you can't disable the network connection without disabling sharing. The interface feels very un-Mac like, with widgets and text that are obviously ported, a lack of Mountain Lion full-screen mode support, key remapping of Control-C to Command-C, etc. If you value polish and the extra stuff in an application to compose usability a joy and not just “it'll do," then VirtualBox isn't for you.

Beyond the simple “I don't care for it" things, it's not ready for exhaust with a Mavericks host or Windows 8.1, either. There were so many showstopping bugs that I just gave up trying to comprehend it in their benchmark comparison. Screenshots with GPU-enabled mode were black. At one point the machine woke and the VM wouldn't respond to clicks. Visual glitches abounded in GPU-enabled mode.

    No, that's not <em>Borderlands 1</em> on PS3. Enlarge / No, that's not Borderlands 1 on PS3.

My Windows 8.1 VM crashed at least five times just trying to install the software for the benchmarks. When I ran the SF4 benchmark, it didn't limpid the 3D buffer, so every frame would overlay on top of the previous one like a hadouken tracer. It was trippy but, needless to say, besides completely useless.

To live just to VirtualBox, I was testing the unreleased Windows 8.1 on an unreleased OS X 10.9, so it was as bleeding edge as you could get. Still, this is what separates the commercial applications from open source ones that grasp a more leisurely approach to support: you comeby release-day advocate for the next host and client OSes with the commercial products. I'm sure things will comeby better for VirtualBox with Mavericks and Windows 8.1, but for now, it's a no-go.

    Benchmarks

Since both VMware and Parallels talk about performance gains in their What's fresh docs, I've included their previous versions for comparison. VMware besides said that there are Haswell optimizations in version 6, but I don't hold any Haswell Macs to test, unfortunately. If you're a fan of the free VirtualBox virtualization software and are annoyed to behold that I didn't comprehend it in the benchmarks, read above—it wasn't because I didn't try.

    CPU and I/O benchmarks

Nothing too crazy to behold here, but VMware Fusion 6 wins the fresh boot-up contest, and Parallels Desktop 9 bags the multiple file copy one. For Cinebench MP rendering, it was a itsy-bitsy eerie that Parallels' previous version took the crown, but it was consistent—all times are averages of three tests. With the Autodesk Max, VMware Fusion 6 pulls slightly ahead for the eight-core render. But if I were using a VM for rendering in Windows, it would live a no-contest win for VMware if I needed more cores, which will soon live the case with the coming Mac Pro.

    Professional OpenGL 3D

The Maya benchmark is almost unchanged from what they saw the final time around: VMware Fusion 6 beats Parallels Desktop 9 handily. But then Parallels reverses that win in Solidworks, which is fresh on my list of benchmarks. I figured this CAD app was a helpful illustration of a 3D program that Mac users would exhaust in a VM, and Solidworks has a convenient GL-based turntable export that can live used as a benchmark. It rotates the viewport around the model and writes the uncompressed frames to disk (the identical disk is used for outright VMs).

In the Cinebench OpenGL test, Parallels Desktop 9 was clearly the winner. Both versions of VMware Fusion stuttered while doing the GL playback, but there were no disk operations like search indexing or Time Machine backups running.

    Gaming benchmarks

None of these DirectX 9 scores are much of an ad for the power of VM gaming, but it's just to stutter that Parallels Desktop 9 is the king of DirectX in a Mac virtual machine. This is especially fair given that VMware Fusion 5 wouldn't elude Unigine Heaven, and version 6 had some parade issues shown previously. If real-time Windows-based OpenGL 3D or DirectX gaming is the main exigency for your VM, Parallels is currently the best option.

    Mavericks VM Benchmarks

Here I've pitted VMware Fusion 6 against the machine running the Mavericks beta natively, and it's a very near race. As I mentioned above, Parallels Desktop 9 couldn't comeby Mavericks up and running despite repeated attempts on different hardware. Not much of a contest here until Parallels sorts that out.

    Parallels Desktop 9 Verdict

Parallels Desktop 9 packs some significant upgrades, most notably its advocate for DirectX 10, automatic cloud-syncing between the host Mac and Windows VMs, some qualify performance gains, and Power Nap support. The inclusion of the Start8 menu for Windows 8 VMs was a smart move, but it doesn't fix some of the awkwardness that plagues virtualized Windows 8 when compared to previous versions of Windows. Parallels is doing the best job of linking the Mac and Windows environments, but I wish that it gave more attention to non-Windows VM support, because Linux advocate can live hit or miss.

    Pros

  • Smart OS X dictionary advocate for Windows VMs
  • Slightly improved 3D graphics performance and DirectX 10 support
  • Out-of-the-box sync with host Mac's cloud features like Dropbox and iCloud
  • Power Nap features labor well
  • Inclusion of Start8 menu for Windows 8 VMs
  • Moderate performance gains over previous version
  • Cons

  • Linux sustain outside of Ubuntu is getting worse because of degrading support
  • Many features like Dropbox and iCloud advocate are available to Windows VMs only
  • Some annoying bugs like Dock application aliases not working
  • The Take-away

  • A helpful release overall with some bugs that noiseless exigency squashing
  • VMware Fusion 6 Professional Verdict

It has been captivating seeing VMware differentiate its Mac virtualization product from Parallels', and Fusion 6 goes even further in this regard. While the non-Pro version besides gets the brawny capabilities like 16-core CPU support, it's the Pro version that really stands out. While Parallels' 3D graphics capabilities noiseless setaside it ahead for games and professional applications, VMware's robust IT-oriented security features compose it the best altenative if data security is a concern. The linked clone feature is besides magnificient for testing environments where you exigency one master VM but with different settings. If you're looking for solid launch-day advocate for Windows 8.1, Mavericks, or Linux in a VM, VMware Fusion 6 is highly recommended.

    Pros

  • Support for up to 16 cores, 10 virtual network adapters, 64GB RAM, and 8TB virtual drives for workstation-level VM capabilities, even for non-Pro version
  • Robust features for IT departments looking to lock down sensitive information inside VMs
  • Linked clones minimize data duplication and wasted time
  • Moderate performance gains over previous version
  • Cons

  • Some DirectX 9 and OpenGL issues in Windows 8.1
  • Gallium 3D driver noiseless not mature enough for liable OpenGL in Linux
  • The Take-away

  • A solid update that will appeal equally to both power users and IT departments

  • Microsoft Launches Free OneNote 2013 for Windows and Mac | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

As rumors implied a few days ago, Microsoft decided to compose OneNote free on Mac and Windows, thus trying to compete with Evernote, which continues to live the number one note-taking app on multiple platforms.

OneNote 2013 for Windows, which can live downloaded free of impregnate perquisite now, works on both Windows 7 and Windows 8, and can live launched perquisite on the desktop for as much time as you want. OneNote for Windows 8, which comes with advocate for the modern UI, is besides free of charge.

Microsoft OneNote for Mac, on the other hand, is already up for grabs from the Mac App Store, again with a free license and providing advocate for a wide array of languages, including English, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. It comes in the configuration of a 235 MB package and requires OS X 10.9 or greater.

“With OneNote, you can capture that glint of genius, that instant of inspiration, or that list of errands that’s too necessary to forget. Whether you’re at home, in the office or on the go, your notes travel with you. And you can share your notes and collaborate with others, across multiple devices!” Microsoft says in the official app description published in the Mac App Store.

Although it’s now available for outright Windows users, the free version of OneNote doesn’t forward with the identical feature package as the paid version, but it lacks SharePoint advocate and Outlook integration. Of course, a license is needed for these features, but the basic feature lineup is noiseless there to convince you to switch from Evernote to OneNote.

Microsoft is besides working on an updated version of the Windows 8 version of OneNote, with people confidential with the development plans claiming that the launch could grasp region sometime this year.

The fresh OneNote for Windows 8 build would live portion of Office Gemini, a broader set of plans supposititious to refresh the Office productivity suite and bring, among others, a touch-optimized version of the product that can live used on tablets running Windows 8 perquisite in the modern UI.

Microsoft has already confirmed that a touch-based flavor of Office is in the works, but there are no details regarding the launch date, but sources near to the matter hinted that it could arrive soon after the debut of Office for iPad scheduled to debut in the coming months.
